Young Dro’s Rough Start and Rise to Fame

Young Dro, whose real name is D’Juan Hart, had a difficult childhood growing up in Bankhead Court, an infamous housing project in Atlanta. He is the second eldest of his mother’s five sons and the middle child of his father’s 21 children. His mother worked tirelessly to provide for her family, and Young Dro spent much of his childhood moving from one housing complex to another.

At the age of 16, Young Dro was shot in the stomach and unable to walk for almost a year. He spent most of his teen and early twenties in prison. Despite these challenges, Young Dro discovered a talent for writing rap lyrics in the 9th grade.

In the late 90’s, Young Dro hooked up with rapper Raheem the Dream and was signed to Raheem’s record label, Tight IV Life Records. He released his debut album, I Got That Dro, in 2002 under the stage name Dro. Young Dro caught the attention of TI, who signed him to his label, Grand Hustle Records, in 2005.

Under the name Young Dro, he released his debut album, Best Thang Smokin’, in 2006. The first single, Shoulder Lean, was a hit and reached no. 10 on the Billboard Hot charts. The second track, Rubberland Banks, peaked at no. 23 on the rap chart.

TI and Young Dro had been best friends in the 90’s but lost contact. They were reunited after many years, and this could be the beginning of a beautiful relationship.
